FATAL ACCIDENT.
AN OLD RESIDENT KILLED.
We regret to report that yesterday a fatal accident befel Mr Thomas Russell, a well-known and highly respected resident of the Plains. Mr, Russell,-who was a widower, was staying with Mr James Dakers, at Kaupokonui,- and While assisting in feeding out hay from a cart fell, and the horses moving forward a wheel passed over his chest, the injured man dying within half an hour. Mr Russell was borne at Birmingham 70 years ago, came to New Zealand about 50 years ago, and spent some, years in the Wairarapa. Later he can™ to Taranaki and settled at Ok'aiawa. Mr Russell ran a coach service between Okaiawa, Norinanby and Hawera for some time, and became very widely known and respected. He then took up farming at Okaiawa, and later was employed as manager of Joll's creamery at Kapuni. Mr Russell was seventy years of age on Friday last, and was iu,Haw«ra on Saturday. The funeral will be at, Okaiawa to-morrow afternoon.
