MACAULAY'S NEW ZEALANDER
CURIOUS BEQUEST,
LONDON, Nov. 15. A peculiar reference to Lord Macaulay's "New Zealander" taking his stand on a broken arch of London Bridge to sketch the ruins of St. Paul's appears in the will of Mr Frederick Tressier, of Brighton, aged 74, leaving estate of the gross value of £97,381. He gave directions that his remains should be cremated, and the ashes piaced in a Wedgwood vase "which I possess, and which vase I then desire to be placed in a lead-covered box, and deposited in the vault in Kemsal Green Cemetery, in which my parents are buried. I direct my executors after my burial to have the vault filled to the top with gravel or earth at t;i« expense of my estate. I do not desire this done for self-gratification, but if tho future of Lord Macaulay's New Zealander should come digging, he will he so delighted with the find."
Generous bequests of £1000 each were made to many London hospitals, as well as to the Salvation Army and Dr. Barnardo's Homes. After bequests to relatives and servants, the residue of his property is to be equally divided between the Gordon Boys' Homes and Dr. Barnardo's Homes.
