DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS
(BY TEI/BOW a t»w—pt?t?ss AB«Ocrr*T7oN *> CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 2. The final matches of the New Zealand championship tennis tournament were played this afternoon in fine weather. Results: COMBINED DOUBLES. Semi-final—Mrs Scott AVatson and E. L. Bartleet (Auckland) beat Miss Z. AVellwood (Hawke's Bay) and F. Peach (New South Wales), 6—4, 2—6, B—6. Final—Miss Marjorie Macfarlane and H. L. Robson (Auckland) beat Mrs Scott Watson and Bartleet, 2—6. 9—7 10—8. ' ' At the conclusion of the final match Mr W. N. Seay, president of the New Zealand Tennis Association, presented the trophies. The tournament, said Mr Seay, had been a great success. There had been some surprises, and the play had been of a good standard. The ladies' play was especially good, and the South Island ladies had shown great improvement. This was probably due to the visit of the New South Wales ladies last year, as they had competed in the tournament held in Christchurch. Mr Seay announced that the Wilding Cup and the banner which goes with it had been won by Canterbury with six points. Auckland was second with four points.
