A -sensation was caused when the earth began to sink in a plot of ground belonging lo the Catholic Church at Sbenberg, in Bausk district, says the Riga £orp&sjpondent of the "Times." The pit gradually developed, and in an hour attained a depth of 100 feet, with a 30 feet -diameter. A few hours later .the diameter had increased and the depth became immeasaßeable. A fcaj-n at the-edge of the pit collapsed and «even ions of straw aay fell into the cfesm. Although the bottom of the hole is invisib*le., "heavy .objects falling produce a remote splashing noise. The pit is still increasing.
