Nurse Mona Corkill tendered her resignation as a nurse at the New Plymouth Public Hospital to the Taranairi Hospital Board yesterday. Nurse Corkill has received an appointment at the Hanmer Sanatorium.

The Rev. George Paterson, minister of St. James Js Presbyterian Church, Auckland, who was recently granted three months' leave of absence owing to ill-health, has died at Honolulu. Mr and Mrs Paterson left for Honolulu by the Niagara on September-11.

Mr. A. Cadmanj of Nolantown, wfeo was admited to the Hawera Hospital on Sunday suffering from acute appendicitis, has been operated on, and is now making satisfactory progress.

Old settlers of Okaiawa will regret to learn of the death, at Waitara, of Mrs. Dodd, wife of Henry Ehdd, who for many years lived at Okaiawa, where they were must esteemed by many friends. Some fifteen years ago they settled at Waitara, where they have since resided. There are four daughters left to mourn their loss —Mrs. W.^lynn (Lepperton), Mrs. A. Roberts (Lepperton), Mrs. E. C. Jones (Waitara) and Mrs. H. Box (Kakahi). The funeral will take place at Lepperton on Thursday.

At the monthly meeting of the Hawera Technical High School Board of Managers the resignation of Mr. F. Mills was received and was accepted with regret. The chairman eulogised the good work of Mr. Mills., and said he had been a very useful member, and that his assistance in the work of the board would be much missed.

Mr. F. H. Allen lias been appointed a member, of the district committee, for the north part of the Wellington Land District. The personnel of the committee is Messrs. David Craig (chairman), D. IX McLean, and F. H. Allen.

Mr.W. R. C. Macpherson, accountant of the Wahganui branch of the National Bank, has been' appointed manager of the bank's branch at Nelson, in succession to Mr. Cecil King, who. is ; shortly retiring on pension, after 48 years' service-. Mr. Macpherson is leaving Wariganui early in November and will be succeeded by Mr. C. F. Bruce, at present chief bill clerk ki the local office.

Another old eoionlst and highly respected resident of Herne Bay passed away on Thursday in the person of Mr Frederick Loftus Bolton (reports the Auckland Star). Mr Bolton was in his 76th year. Born at Dundalk, County Meath, Ireland in 1848, he came to New Zealand in the sailing ship Ironsides in 1865. He afterwards settled at Te Rore, Waikato, and for many years carried on farming operations. He was also ferryman on the Waipa in the early days, where he was very well known and respected. Owing to advancing years he relinquished farming to reside in Auckland, where he lived in retirement with his only daughter. He had been in failing health for some time past. A man of genial disposition, Mr Bolton had endeared himself to all who knew him- for his cheery manner and kindly thought for others. He married in 1875, his wife predeceasing him fifteen years ago, and he is survived by five sons and one daughter.
