OLYMPIA HORSE SHOW.

The twelfth annual show, in July, ! states the London Times, was a huge success. The general scheme represented a huj;e and unusually gorgeous marquee, and the arena, itself was surrounded with great beds of red, white and blue flowers. Most impressive of all was the Royal box, which was I fashioned in the form 'of a domed tent I and surmounted by a large crown. The first day's programme opened almost informally. The bond of the i Royal Marines took up -their places in the musicians' gallery and grooms in scarlet went to their position in the arena. There was a short silence, and then a sudden blast from a horn. The gates at the end of the arena were

flung open, and the first batch of competing horses entered the arena. In this simple way the show began. The main interest in the programme, as, indeed, in aivvays tne case, was directed

to the jumping competitions, and during the week representatives of the' Uritish. French, rJelgian, and Italian armies took part in the competition for the Prince oi \\ ales's'Cup. There was some .jumping, and several officers from abroad competed, the Italians giving a clever exhibition, but a lady rider especially appealed to the vast audience. Sir Gilbert Greenall, speaking .at a luncheon before the opening performance, said the show, which was established in 1907, had been a great success and had done much tor horse breeding in the country. The show this year promised to be one of the most successful that had been held. There were 1851 entries, which showed an increase of 469 compared with last year. This, he thought, indicated the great interest taken in the show and the satisfaction of the public in regard to its management.
