* FARMERS' UNION SOCIAL. A very interesting event was held on Wednesday by the enterprising committee of the Farmers' t nion to enable, as the president stated in his opening remarks, the farmers of the district and their wives and friends to meet and enjoy a good evening. The whole of the arrangements were carried out by the committee, and they are to be congratulated on the success they achieved. Advantage was also taken of the opportunity to present the prizes won In the root growing and cattle competitions. An apology was received I from Messrs. Deem and Glasson for inability to be present. During the evening a good musical programme was given, which was much enjoyed, and dances were interspersed during this programme. The items were as follow. Song, "Captain Mac," Mr. H. Damon (encored); song, "Deathless Army," Mr. J. Cosgrove, encore "Till the Sands of the Desert grow cold" ; recitation, Miss Holland (encored1); sword dance, Miss Mouat (encored). Accompaniments were played by Miss Wills. Mrs. Bradley, and Mrs. Mud- . ford.'
