MR. HAWKEN ON DAIRYING PROGRESS.

(By Telegraph—Special to Star.) ' WELLINGTON, June 21. ! The member for Egmont (Mr, O. J. Hawken) contributed to the Address-in-Reply debate to-day with interesting expressions on the subject of land settlement and increased production. He agreed that a different policy would have to be pursued if land was to be settled with any idea of securing increased production. There was scarcely any country left for suitable small settlement. If the House studied the relative progress made by the various industries it would realise that dairying had progressed at a greater pace than any other industry, and the Prime Minister's decision regarding an improvement in the State Advances would mean a big thing to dairy farm- ■ ers. As for the no-confidenre amendment, Mr. Hawken suggested that the ; Government had made progress in re- J gard t<* nearly every item which.
