DOMINION MANUFACTURERS.
COMMENTS BY MR. MASSEY. i (BY TELIiGKAPH —PEKSS ASSOCIATION ) ' ; DtTNEDIN, June B. | ! Speaking to tlie Manufacturers' As-! ; sociation, Mr. Massey said that he had repeatedly heard that the new tariff with Australia had enabled New Zea- : land manufacturers to compete success- . fully with Australian manufacturers on 1 the Australian markets, particularly in respect to agricultural machinery and implements. No better implements were made anywhere in the world- We in New Zealand had now come to the end of the war, in which the Dominion had taken no "unimportant part, and ; were up against exactly the same thing that had given America .trouble after the civil war. We had plenty of raw material that was going to the other side of the world to be manufactured and coming back in the form of manufactured goods. We also had thousands iof young men born, trained,, and edul cated in this country who afterwards ! went to other carts of the world. We j slv>uld be proud of the fact that they ' Occupied good positions in other countries, but we should be able to offer these young men position's in New Zealand equal to those they found elsewhere. He looked to the manufacturers to help the Legislature to improve matters in this respect.
