I HAWERA LADIES' CLUB. Yesterday Hawera entertained for the first time a team from Wanganui. The visitors > who came by motor 'bus, arrived about midday, m time for lunch. As was anticinated, they were too strong for the local team, the results being in their favour by eight matches to four/ Nevertheless some of : the defeated ones acquitted themselves ' not without credit, two games in Hawera' s favour, as it happened, were de- i cided on the nineteenth green accord- ' ing to a. new L.G.U. rule, which does not recognise squared matches. As in the Stratford match, the% day was marred by rain, this time a ' heavy I drizzle, which set in -soon after the match, began and continued for more than half-way round. The cheerful log ' fire, thoughtfully provided by Mrs. Grieg, was a great comfort to everybody, and was much appreciated by the j visitors in view of their long drive ' home.
