WAIROA SEVEN-ASIDE TOURNEY.
(From Our Waverley Cor respondent.) The annual seven-aside tournament held under the auspices of the Wairoa Sub-Union took place on Saturday, .June -J, on the local Kecreation Ground. There v*ere very few present, owing to the wet weather, but some good games wore witnessed, especially the one between Waverley seniors and Rangatautau, which ran into four spells before a force down gave the river team a victory. The following are the details of the play: Seniors. Rangitautau beat Waverley by one point after four spells. Makakaho beat Waitotara by three points (a penalty goal by Ross) to nil. Final—Makakaho defeated Rangatautau by six points (try by Larsen and penalty goal by Ross) to nil. Juniors. Rangatautau had a walk-over from Waverley, the latter team failing to put in an appearance. Makakaho beat Waitotara by three points to nil, Amoore scoring a"try. ■ Final—Makakaho beat Rangatautau by three points to nil, Larconibe scoring the try. Messrs. McWilliam and Symes refereed, and Messrs. McDonald and Verry acted as timekeepers. After the games Mr. McWilliam (president of the Wairoa Sub-Union), in presenting the shields, congratulated the winning teams on their performances. They had come forward for three years, travelling close on 40 miles, and he was very pleased to see them the- victors for this season. Mr. Larsen (captain of Makakaho) received the trophy for the seniors, and Mr. Amoore on behalf of the juniors, and thanked the oresident for his remarks. Cheers were then interchanged between the winners and losers.
