NGUTUWERA.

For some.time the lady members of the- Ngutuwera Anglican community have been, busy arranging for a social and dance in aid of the Waverley Anglican Church. The event took place oil Friday evening in the local hall. About 50 couples were present. Mr. G. Roots made an efficient M.C., and Mrs. Murphy, of Moumahaki, presided at the piano. During the evening a party of four Patea ladies and gentlemen, assisted by Messrs E. J. Turner and J. R. Patton, of Waverley, delighted those present with their instrumental, v.ocal, and elocutionary numbers. The following programme was rendered: Pianoforte solos. Miss A. .Homer (Patea); songs. Mr. M. C. Harding, "Come to the Fair," "Fleur ette,5' "Sincerity," "The Banjo Song," the last two being encore numbers; songs, Mr. J. R. Patton "Queen of the Larth," encore "If I might only come to you," "The Grey Friar" j* songs, Miss -W. Johnson (Patea), "Vanity Fair," encores "Old Fashioned Town/ "Happy Song" ; recitations, Mr. E J. lurner, "Devil May Care," encore drying Pan's Theology." On behalf of the ladies' committee the R-ev. Mr. Wilson thanked the performers, and they were accorded a vote of thanks by acclamation. A sit-down supper provided by the ladies on a lavish scale was done full justice to. Dancing was kept going merrily till 2 a.m.,-and the ladies' committee "have every reason to feel gratified that their efforts were crowned with such signal sucees*. Tkfi -'iQllawing .ladies comprised the committee: Mrs B Cox a? S- 4 H \ Oxley ' Mrs- W- G- Belton; Mrs A. Welch, Mrs. M. E. Roots, Miss M. Hooper, Mrs. F. Hooper, and Misses M. A and J. Warner. Dance extras were played by Misses Higgie and Brad ley and Mr. G. Johnston. On May 3 a s-end-off to Mr. A. E. R Joblin was held in the local school. Mr, Joblin, who has been schoolmaster here for the past 18 months, was presented by the settlers with a valuable travelling rug. Mr. Joblin has taken chaise or the Mareretu North school Otamatea County, North Auckland and lus place has been filled, here by Mr C O. C. Christoffersen, late of IJtmvai school (Oroua). The recent spell of wet weather has not improved the state of th>e roads between Moumahaki and Te Hnia One" oi our .settlers, got his car stuck in the mud. and others had to di<>- it out Fortnightly dances for learners are being held in the Ngutuwera hall on alternate Saturrfr ys .
