BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT

(Eeeeived May 21,. 1.45 p.m.) j LONDON, May 20. | The Prince of Wales attended the opening conference of the British

Legion, to which the overseas Domin

ions and foreign countries sent frater-

nal delegates. The Prince of Wales 'said that the Legion had well over

2000 branches and might now suitably consolidate its position and in this way a really big means of helping •ex-service men to safeguard the inter-

ests of widows and orphans. Referring to his recent visit to the battlefields, he said that those terrible but magnificent cemeteries which stand on the landscape oa every side inspire one ■with a fine tremendous feeling, which home to each one of us what "was and should be hallowed in this spirit of comradeship. ! Earl Haig said that although there "were still many injustices ' and ap- ' distress he believed that the lot ■of the ex-service men was better than "would have "been the ease if the Legion had not been formed. } Later, members of the conference the Prince of Wales attended a special choral service at the Cenotaph. —Aus.-N.Z.
