DAIRY POOL

,—- I DETAILS OP PROPOSALS. I (By Telegraph.—Special to Star). WELLINGTON, May 3. The main outline of the plans for bhe dairy pool was communicated to the Dominion Farmers' Union executive by Mr F. W. Hubbard (Palmerston North),! ivho expressed the strong opinion that if we could come more directly into contact with consumers in Great Britain it would be much better for the producers hert. He thought it would be an advantage ;t a board in London and other parts at Home should procure or erect cv) J v.tores of sufficient capacity to 1: i^, uy, half of our annual export outpiv . If that were done we could take advantage of any rise in price which might take place. At present a very large proportion, probably as much as 90 per cent, of our butter, was used for blending. He thought that the proposed board, as set out in the Bill, required considerable amendment, both in respect to its constitution and functions. He did not see that a very great advantage would be gained by controlling export from this end under existing circumstances. We dealt solely with the wholesale merchants or firms in Great Britain whereas he thought we should endeavour to supply the retail vendors direct and also mill our butter at the London cool butter depot into retail lots ■of single pounds and have each pound stamped "N.?!. First Grade or "N.Z. Second Grade,'' as the case might be. That would tend to a large extent to eliminate all possibilities of blending. Members of the executive then considered in detail the provisions of the Dairy Produce Export Control Bill proposed to be introduced into Parliament at the approaching session. Several amendments were suggested and the following motion was carried: "That the Union supports the Dairy Produce Control Bill as set out. with the proviso that the nine producers on the board be elected directly from the dairy producers themselves, but that the method be left to a conference of delegates representing the dairying interests.''
