GOOD PROSPECTS. 7 Looking back to forty years ago, on the 17th of March. 1883, older residents of the district will remember that on that date the first show -was held m Normanby, amd so? successful did prove that despite lips and downs the society is still above board, and must still be classed as the, premier horticultural society of the province.'Those sturdy old pioneers who,.formed the first executive deserve great credit for their forethought ih organising the annual fixture at Nppnanby.-, During its existence the society has done a vast amount' of good for the district in introducing new; varieties of potatoes and other seeds, and if only for this thoroughly deserves the support of the settlers of Taranaki. The, fortieth show, which takes place on Wednesday and Thursday next,, promises to be a record one, judging by the large outside enquiry for schedules. The £0 5s cup for collection of vegetables is creating !a large, amount of interest, and besides this there are other valuable trophies and cash' prizes in the various sections. ' \ , The calf-rearing competition to be held on the second: day will no doubt draw large entries, and mothers are I reminded of the baby' show on ThursI day afternoh. . ' / Entries arei. coming to hand well ana 1 the secretary will be prepared to re--1 ceive late entries up to 9 p.m. on Monday next. '- .... '" •' ■'■'■:' ■-...' ■■ '■'.' 'AYxY
