Good progress is being made with the erection of the new police station and sergeant's residence in Albion Street, and Mr Alderton's foreman, Mr W. H. Lee, expects that the work t will be completed about the end of March. The brick work of the station has just been* finished, and the brick work of the residence will be completed about the end of next week. The plasterers and carpenters will then come on the job, and the buildings will soon be_in to take on a finished appearance. ' —

A picture of the Sydney business streets at Christmas time: Between certain hours Santa Glaus has the police of the footpaths betaen to their keens. The Christmas trade rush has established a new traffic rule, with which the. authorities have nothing to do. No. matter which way they aire walking, women and children are at the windows, and men are on the, edge of the footpath. That is how it works out, thus returning to those medieval, times that originated the oft-misinterpreted adage, "The weaker must go to the j wall." The weaker are at the wall ! now, laden with parcels, but spunred ! on by;motives. Stspftg men, supposed | to be attached to them, smoke furiously jon the kerb, exchange curiously idenj tical opinions/ to., the effect that it is ! a.! mighty good thing that Christmas i conies only once a year. Obviously the i conditions in the crowded thoroughfares militate against originality of thought by those who are repeatedly appealed to to expand the family shopping estimates to cover some newly discovered article of rare merit that j'-cannot be passed without incurring j subsequent remorse that have j constant expression in the family circle. I The fine, Zavour, svrength and purity of Sharland's Vinegar, brewed from pure oane sugar, cannot be surpassed. j -Advt. ~.'■■' Mirror-like polish quickly and easily achieved with liquid "Tanol." Fine for floors, furniture and leather goods. . Also in paste form.—Advt.
