MISCHIEF MAKERS.
THE TORIES JUBILANT.
■BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT LONDON, Oct. 81. The Daily Chronicle states a conflict between the National Liberals and the Conservatives is rapidly developing. Mr Xiloyd George is reluctantly and regretfully preparing 150 National Liberal candidates to attack Tory seats, thus creating a situation ■which the Tory mischief makers seized on gleefully. Lord Derby and Mr j Bonar Law tried to promote sensible co-operation, but the Tory machine is too strong. There is talk by sober Conservatives regarding the desirability of withdraw--ing puppet Die-hard candidates, but nothing haß been done. The result of the retaliation will be that a number of Conservatives will be defeated. The bert opinion of the moment is that if the elections were held without this fierce exterminating duel Mr Bonar Law might return with about 305 supporters, but if the battle continues the Conservatives will lose 40 seats to Labour.
