EMPIRE EXHIBITION.

- — ♦ - UNFORTUNATE COMMENCEMENT. : -■■■■■■ FOREIGN FOODSTUFFS. BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, Oct. 18. The High Commissioner for Australia (Sir Joseph Cook), in a letter to the press, says Mr. Robert Donald's disclosure regarding the opinion of the management of the Empire Exhibition, that Imperial foodstuffs could not alone maintain the exhibition restaurants, is a most unfortunate commencement. The assertion that it is impracticable for the Dominions to supply fodstuffs and other necessaries for restaurants is pure nonsense, and Mr. Donald's references - will cause consternation in the Dominions. Sir Joseph adds that the Dominions could provide everything needful from the foundation right through its construction and equipment. The main i object of the exhibition is to show the j people of this country the foodstuffs1 and products of the Empire, and obviously there is no better way of illus-, Crating the variety and quality of the foodstuffs than by giving the public an : opportunity of eating them. Australia certainly expects that Empire foodstuffs will be served in the restaurants, i and it seems inconceivable that the authorities are unwilling to insist, on this condition.
