MEAT EXPORT.

■ » • Proposed Australian control. scheme condemned at home. BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION— IOP BRIGHT 1 (Received Oct. 19, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 18. The proposal that B.A.W.R.A. should prolong its existence in order to control Australia's meat export trade has been received with hostility by all sections of the meat trade here, from pastoral companies to Smithfield dealers. Enquiries among all classes interested show • a feeling of resentment against the maintenance of any sort of Government control. What all sections of the trade desire is a return to prewar freedom. The opinion is generally expressed that, as Australia only provides a comparatively small proportion of our meat supplies, any attempt to control or fix prices would only be | playing into the hands of rivals, especially Argentine shippers. It is alsopointed out that the Australian meat industry could not possibly hear the cost of an expensive organisation like k the B.A.W.R.A.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
