THE PEDIGREE JERSEY.

♦ : EXCELLENT SALE AT HAWERA. BRISK DEMAND SHOWN. That there is still a keen evidence of , the demand for the good pedigree Jer- : sey bull was amply in evidence at the combined sale yesterday. The sale . was held under the auspices of the Egmont A. and P. Association, the com- : niittee of which are to be highly commended for helping so good an institution.. ! Tbe three; stock firms —Farmers' Cp--1 op.. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile and R. P.- Morrissey and Co. —were associatedl in the sale,, the bulk being submitted by the' first mentioned company. Their auctioneers, Messrs. C. G. Trotter (Farmers'), J. S. Wilson (Loan Co.), and R.. Morrissey were well up to their work and elicited all there was to be got from buyers. The- prices, despite tbe fact, that there had been four days last week of similar sales in New Plymouth, Stratford and Kaponga,. must be considered very good and are a tribute to the centre which attracted good buyers from many parts outside of Taranaki., Every lot submitted but one was sold and the total reached gave an average over all of about £24 ss. Included were two or three bull calves and an aged bull" that should, have gone to the freezing works. The highest bid was brought by a fine bull entered by Mr. W. D. Knowles, of Patea, a returned soldier settler. This bull, Taumatk Park Gold Field, by Meadowvale Gamboiler, a sire which, has butter-fat all over him, realised 71gns., going to a Hunterville farmer. Mr. Knowles' other bull, Taumata Park's Wassah, scored 60gns.,. and also went to Hunter, ville. Mr. H. Buxton, of Auroa,, secured the next second top price with his fine bull Raithwaite Molina, which attracted a lot of attention and for which the bidding went on until it reached 62gns. Breeders, and all concerned, were very pleased with the conduct of the sale, remarking specially on the excellence of the catalogue, which was well got up and gave very comprehensive details of the various animals. These j Were much appreciated by all pres- | ent. It was generally considered the best fair catalogue yet got out.
