THE BEST RESULTS.

SECURED BY COMPANY OWNED RAILWAYS.

Mr. E. St. O. Haydon ,now the owner of the famous Kia Ora stud, New Zealand ,said in Sydney a few days ago that the railway facilities in the Argentine, where the lines were privately owned, were greatly superior to those of Australia. "One of your own cattle kings told me the other day," Mr. Haydon proceeded, "that he landed only 24. per cent, of his stock in prime condition. That is a very sad state of affairs. In the Argentine it is quite customary to get 90 per cent, prime from the chillers, all because of better handling. Although I do not wish to criticise Australian methods, it must be plain to anyone that they do things better in the Argentine. The railroad companies vie with one another in giving the best results. When residing in New Zealand I believed in Stateowned railways, but I do not _now. Competition is the soul of business, and there is" nothing like it for obtaining efficiency."
