OLD MAN'S END.

WHANGAREI, Oct. 16. Alexander Bell, an inmate of the Old People's Home, aged 82, and formerly a master mariner, was found dead under a bridge on Otaika road yesterday afternoon with his face blown away. He had improvised the gun with which suicide was committed from a piece of lead piping charged with powder, and fired from a touch hole. A letter was found in his pocket addressed to the police sergeant A . intimating his intention. He had suffered from an incurable disease for many years.
