CAPTURED CORRESPONDENCE.
~BT CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT
Received Oct. 16, 10.55 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 15. The Irish Government has issued the first "White Paper which deals with the captured correspondence between De Valera and other prominent Republicans. One of De Valera's letters recommends the executive of the rebel army to take control and assume the responsibility for enabling De Valera and his coMeagues to resign as public representatives. De Valera points out that he and his colleagues have all the public responsibility,, but no voice and no authority. If he cannot get the position made clear he threatens to resigh publicly, despite the harm such a step would do the Republican cause. The letter continues: "We cannot point to an authority derived from a majority of the people, and we could not, as a Government, refuse to allow the jpeople to decide by vote between the two Governments. If the people' were given: a decision that would mean, the worst of all, namely, turning down the Republic."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
