A CHALLENGE, -+ TO THE LICENSED LIQUOR TRADE. We challenge the Trade to disprove the following evidence that the American people have voted on National Prohibition: (1) That 21 States adopted Prohibition j by popular vote, and that 62| milj lion people were satisfied with Proj hibition. before their own Legislatures approved of National Proj hibition. ! (2) That when States have voted on .the question whether Prohibition shall continue they have increased their original majority in favour. (3) That after Congress had passed National Prohibition by an 80 per cent majority 45 out of- 48 States . | approved of it, and so made it part of the American Constitution. (4) That New York State, where most of the Prohibition law breakers are to be found, was one of the four States which opposed National Prohibition in Congress. (5) That 47 out of 48 State Governors, practically all the educational au- )-- thorities, the churches, th© women's social betterment organisations, and over 90 per cent of the big manufacturing firms are solidly behind: Prohibition. (6) That President Harding says r "The - liquor traffic was destructive of much that was precious in American life," and "in another generation will have disappeared . . . from our memories." (7) That the New Zealand people will have the opportunity of voting for National Prohibition in December, whatever Americans may do-. Vote for Prohibition-^-the commonsense remedy.—Hawera Prohibition League.—Advt.
