WANGANUI v. TARANAKI.

A KEEN CONTEST.

Excellent weather and a course in ■ fine order were the conditions in which this annual fixture was played on Saturday. The game was specially interesting to Hawera, because it was the first occasion on which it had been played here. The play throughout was good, and the visitors were all delighted with the course. The caretaker had the course and greens in great order. They were entertained at lunch and afternoon tea, the arrangements being in charge of Mrs. Greig, who put on a nice spread. Taranaki won four of the four-ball matches and five of the singles; Wanganui one four-ball and^» eight singles. Wanganui were unabhs^% to bring up a full team, arid four Hawera players (Sutton, Cox, H. Elliott, and Ryan) stood out in favour of members of other Taranaki clubs.
