Seymour Hicks, who has scored so . great a success in "The Man in Dress Clothes,'? has a wonderful fund of stories, -which he relates in his own1 inimitable way. One of the best con-, cerns an "eating competition" that was ' organised in a mining town in the North of England. One competitor, a ■ giant collier six feet tall, and broad in proportion, succeeded ■in disposing of a leg of mutton, a loaf of bread,; and a plentiful supply of vegetables, ! topping off the repast with the whole of a very substantial plum pudding. He was declared tEe winner, and was be-' ing triumphantly escorted home, when i he turned to his admirers and said: "Ah, lads, don't tha say nowt about' this to my old" woman, or she won't gie me no dinner!" .
