MOTHER'S OFFENCE.
CHILD EXPOSED TO INJURY.
(by telegraph—press association.) DDNEDIN, Oct 13. At the Police Court to-day Phyllis Corrie Davis, aged 18, pleaded guilty to exposing her child in a manner likely to cause injury. Accused was an inmate of St. Vincent de Paul Orphanagev and was licensed out at Southland. While there she was .assaulted by a man, though she made no complaint at the time. She returned to the orphanage, and Lgave birth' on September 16 to & child. There wefe* II occupants of .the dor-1 mitory, and none knew what had happened. "When the others were at breakfast accused took the infant down the fire escape and dropped it over a. seven-foot fence into the street, where two boys saw it, and their mother, eared for it. The child was not injured. Accused was convicted and admitted to probation for three years.
