. . /■- » — ■ I OPENING OF .MANAIA GREEN. i - * (From Our Own, Correspondent.) There .was a large attendance of bowiers at the opening of the Manaia green on Wednesday afternoon. Vi&iting bowlers were present from "Park, Opunake,Pihama, arid Auroa. The green was in perfect order. Prior .tb the opening Mr,. ■ James Hickey (president of the Manaia Club) exferid,ed a; hearty welcome to! 'the visitors .and hoped that they would thorbughly enjoy themselves. The. Manaia' members were very pleased indeed to ';■' see so many. bowlers' from the various tlubs present., Mrs., James Hickey then threw the jack and declared the green opened^ Sides were picked between the president and vice-president, -anil resulted in a draw, each section scoring 101 points During the afternoon afternoon tea was dispensed by- the ladies to all bowlers and visitors, which was very much appreciated by > all "present. ■ _••''. ■■■■'<■' -/ '•' ■ ■ <i ■ At the conclusion, Mr. Haytori, of Park dub, returned thanks to the Manaia bowlers for the splendid afternoon's enjoyment "they had had and made special reference to the splendid condition of tne green. He eulogised the good work of the custodian and the ground committee. On behalf of Park he called for three cheers for the Manaia Club, after which he extended a hearty welcome to the members of the Manaia Club at the opening of the 'Park bowling green next Wednesday. He also thanked the ladies for th* very luce afternon tea which they had pro/vided, which all the visitors thoroughly appreciated. He called for three cheers for the ladies. _Mr. Cowern, of Pihama, also returned thanks on behalf of Pihama and Mr. Johnstone, of Auroa/ returned thanks on behalf of the remaining visitors. .
