SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 12. | The passenger liner City of Honolulu, bound from Honolulu for Los Angeles, is on fire 500 miles west of Los Angeles. Wireless messages stated that the crew were lowering the boats and asked/for assistance. Her position was 31 deg. north and 131 deg. west. Later messages state that all the passengers have been transferred to the lifeboats. It is believd that there are 400 on board the liner, which was formerly the North German Lloyd Friederich der Grosse, and has latterly been running between Honolulu and San Pedro. The fire proved to be uncontrollable and the ship was completely abandoned. The steamer Enterprise is expected to arrive in the vicinity of the boats at noon. It is also stated that a ship not named is picking up the i passengers. j
