Mr. Arthur Ambury has been elected a life member of the Pukekura Park Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in recognition of his past valuable services to the club. Mr. Ambury was for many years president of the club. Commissioner Hoggard, the new chief of the Salvation Army, was given ari enthusiastic welcome and tendered a civic reception at Wellington yesterj day.—-Press Assn.

Messrs. E. Maxwell, W. C. Green, G. Gibson (Rahotu), J. Hine and J. WHitehead (Tikorangi) left for Wellington by the mail train yesterday _ morning. They will appear before the Parliamentary Committee to give evidence in opposition to the Dairy Produce Control Bill. The death has occurred in India of the Rev. Dr. William Hooper, at the age of 85 years. A man of great" literary attainments, he spent practically his whole life in missionary service in India. He wasi for "some time vicar at Mount Albert, Auckland. The Rev. Dr. Hooper was father, of Miss S: Ei Hooper, of the Zephyr Lodge Scbool.
