COMPULSORY MILITARY SERVICE
BY CABLE— PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, Oct. 10.
It is reported from Cork that a big fight took place at Upton, the Nation-; alists surrounding the Irregulars and killing three and capturing sixty and a large quantity of arms and ammunition.
LONDON, Oct. 9. ! Mr Muleahy's speech to troops is regarded as foreshadowing the Government's intention to introduce compul-' sory military service. : Owing to the Sinn Fein members' '■ hostility to the proposed conference be-! tween Ulster Nationalists and Sinn Feiners, aiming at a unified attitude towards the Northern Parliament, it has now broken down.
