DEMAND FOR AN ELECTION,

LONDON, Oct. 10. An emergency meeting of the joint Labour council passed a resolution demanding the Government's immediate resignation and a general election as the only clear step ensuring rigorous reconsideration of the position, not only in the' Near East, but of all H6me and foreign problems; declaring there v;as not a shadow of justification for war with Turkey now that all substantial matters had been referred to a conference; and condemning the Government's publicity bureau for giving out to the Press communications which were keeping the country in a state of uncertainty and alarm.
