The president of the Christchurdk, : Jewish congregation has received thatfollowing cablegram from London: "A: terrible crisis prevails among the East European Jewry, making a fiesh appeal. ; necessary by the % united relief organisations of Great Britain. A million coreligionists are in the grip of starvation and pestilence, and there are over: a hundred thousand homeless orphans. Dr. Nansen (High Commissioner forthe League of Nations) telegraphs r 'The situation is desperate amongst the* [ Jewish population, and immediate? j large foreign relief is necessary.
