A SENTENCE INCREASED. WELLINGTON, April 28

The Court of Appeal delivered judgment this morning in the case King v. Redshaw, an application by Redshaw for a reduction of sentence of nine months' imprisonment imposed upon him at Napier for misappropriation of certain funds of the Foresters' Lodge. The judgment of the Court was delivered by Sir R. Stout, who stated that it was of opinion that in view of the seriousness of the offence the sentence was too light. The Court therefore, in the exercise of its discretion, increased the sentence to 15 months' imprisonment with hard labour. This case is the first in which the Court of Appeal has increased a sentence when application has been made to it for a decrease.
