I KAPONGA SPORTS. I — • The Kaponga Athletic Sports Club's annual was Held at Victoria J'arK^Haponga, yesterday, in glorious Weather. The first round resulted as follows: Petone beat Stratford B. 13 to 5; Ka)onga beat Wa:-mate, 14 "to nil; Havera beat Okaiawa, 14 to nil; New Plynouth JJigh School beat Kaponga C, € to nil; Kaponga Hockey beat Stratf ordr i, 8 to 3. "Kaponga. B a bye. In the second round Petone beat Kaponga B by 11 points to nil; Kaponga A. beat Hawera by 6 points to nil; New Plymouth High School beat Kaponga Hockey by 13 points to 3 The*semi-final proved, a fast, open game, in which the Petone players showed their*superiority. Petone scored three tries and were the winners by 9 points to nil. .The final lay between Petone and the New Plymouth High School. The boys put up" a splendid fight against theix* more experienced opponents, and on numerous occasions won the applause of the onlookers. Following on the kick-off the school attacked, but Nicholls Bros, became prominent and the ball came back to the school half of the field, where, after a passing bout, Thomas got the ball and scored. M. Nicholls' kick failed, and the spell ended:,Petone 3, School nil. When the play opened again School attacked, and Foden made an attempt to pot, but failed. The School worked hard, but Thomas intercepted a pass and broke away and scored. M. Nicholls' kick was successful. It was than that the School players did some exceptionally fine work, and the result of a passing bout saw Foden cross the line and score between the posts. Foden's kick was unsuccessful, the ball hitting the bar. Mr"W. A. Guy was referee.
