BIG FIRE AT SHANNON,

PALMERSTON N., April 27. The biggest fire for twelve years" .occurred at Shannon early this morning, resulting in the destruction of four shops occupied by Mr. Burr, tobacconist and billiard room; Mrs. Coakley, tea rooms; Mr. Watterson, plumber; Mr. Thwaites, chemist. The premises of the Shannon Meat Company were saved with great difficulty. The fire raged for three hours. The insurances are reported to be very small. The buildings were owned by Messrs Carter, Watterson, Gill, and Roach.
