HAWERA HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETING.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I crave space in- your valuable journal for a few lines in reply to "Only a Woman." I would like to ask her how she can say that two definite charges (and those false, too) levelled against a public servant, and he a schoolmaster in charge of 700 of our children, can be called a "passage of arms " or a " molehill.'' Can she not see the injustice of the charges und the injury likely to result therefrom? All Mr Liversedge desired, and what we helped him to obtain, was the rgmoval of that unjust resolution from the minutes. How can "Only a Woman" let it stand, especially when, it is false. Talk about fair play! Yes, it was fair play we wanted, and we got it, but contrast the fair play of the committee. They were quite willing to allow a stigma to remain on the minutes against the headmaster, but resented to the very last any motion that cast a stigma upon them. Ik was .they; own. fault that they did not get a hearty vote of thanks by feting as they did when the result of the ballot was made known; also, I understand, the headmaster, too, would have got a vote of confidence, which he deserves. I trust the public will not think that the result of the ballot was a preponderance of the Catholic vote —I doubt if there were forty Catholics present, and even if there were they showed themselves Bri-. tishers anyhow. The late committee showed their spirit of fair play in the way tltey treated the amendment and the withdrawing of their nominations after the ballot. Thanking you for space in the cause of justice.—l am, etc.,
PROTESTANT,
