Negotiations have opened between "the Union Government and a chartered •company representatives with a view to ascertaining the trems upon which the former could acquire land, railway ■ and mineral rights in Ehodesia. An official communique states that i;he conference has closed, and the Union Government explained that it • desired to come to a provisional agreement with the company before finally formulating the terms of incorporation. As soon as the negotiations are _ complete the terms will be communi- ■ cated to the High Commissioner in time for a referendum. The general opinion among the dele- ■ gates is that the prospects of the Union are not improved by the conference, and that Rhodesia would probably prefer trying a responsible Government -t -first.
