RACING IN AUSTRALIA.

SYDNEY, April 19,

The weather was fine and warm for -the third day of the Australian Jockey Club's autumn meeting, the attendance feeing 35,000. A pleasant afternoon's racing was witnessed, though investors were kept guessing to the end. Beauford's magnificent mile performance was remarkable for his casual, easy-going style. He could have established new figures if he had been extended. Eurvthmie's form in the Cumberland Stakes was disappointing, though his defeat was not unexpected. The champion is seemingly off colour temporarily. David's victory was popular, and he received an ovation.

In the hurdles Prince StoCkrington and Pyrene fell. The jockey Dorringtoa sustained severe concussion, and Stephenson suffered a fractured jaw and collarbone and an injured back. Results:

Easter Stakes —Limestone 1, Prince Minimbah 2, Sir Andrew 3. Eight starters. The winner was handily placed from the commencement. The field bunched coming down the straight, a small margin separating the placed iiorses at the post. Won by a short aeek. Time, 1.28.

Cumberland Stakes —David 1, Furious 2, Eurythmie 3. Also started: Swift Shot, Sister Olive. Winner trained by J. Holt. Sister Olive moved up at the mile post, Eurythmie following suit entering the straight. City Handicap;—Greg 1, Tikaroo 2, King of the Forest 3. Fifteen starters. Won. by a head. Time, 2.49 J.

Second Hurdle Eace—Montaigne Le--1011, Colonel Knut 2, Bendok 3. Eleven trtarters. Eedueine and Prince Stoekxington led the first time round. The latter and Pyrene fell opposite the stand. Montaigne Leroi went to the .front at the last jump and won by three lengths. Time, 4.24-J.

AH-Aged Stages—Beauford 1, Tangalooma 2, Julia Grey 3. Other starters -were: Whizz Bang, Speciality, Etive. The result, was a foregone conclusion,

more interest attaching to picking the horse. Julia Grey was first out

€>£"the barrier, but was soon displaced ,by Beauford, who was always several I lengths ahead, and finished two and a ialf lengths in front of Tangalooma in lmin 37sec, equalling the mile record leld jointly by Cetigne and Greenstead.

Coogee Handicap—Syce Knight 1, Master Cagou 2, Validolid 3. Nineteen starters. It was an open race from the barrier to the post. Validolid led most of the way. Syce Knight went to tne front at the half distance and secured the verdict by three-quarters of a length. Time, 1.52.
