ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent)

FAREWELL TO REV. J. G, CASTLE

A farewell social was given to the Rev. J. G. Castle and family last evening in the Foresters' Hall The hall was packed to overflowing. Musical itei»s were given by Miss Parker (piano), Mr W. Thorpe (song), Mrs Dayton (Bong), Mr A. E. Smalley (recitation), Mr F. Silver (song), Mrs Johnson (song), and Mr M. E. Fitzgerald (song). Mr T. B. Crump, wso was in the chair, on behalf of the parishioners, thanked Mr Castle for the good work he had done during the three years he had been in the district. He had proved himself equal to those before him, and had endeared himself to all, and they would be the poorer by his departure. He wished Mr and Mrs Castle happiness in their future life.

Complimentary remarks were also made by Messrs MeTtivish, A. C. Pease, the Rev. Mr Orange and the Rev. Mr Knowles Smith.

™ ZG - (Mayor), presented Mr Castle with a pocket wallet and a cheque and Mrs Castle and family with a small token of remembrance from their many friends in Eltham. Mr Castle responded with a neat little speech. He thanked those present for their kind remarks and good"wishes. His feelings were of a mixed nature. He felt he was leaving many good friends in the district. He was now taking up the teaching profession in Palmerston North, and to do so required a very great effort indeed. It was very hard to leave the church which had become so very dear to him, but in doing so he was taking up the noblest of all work, teaching the young. He felt his duty lay in this path. The Rev. Blackbourne will take up relieving duty at Etltham'for about a month.
