SHUNTING FATALITY.

A PORTER DIES FROM INJURIES

While engaged in shunting operations at Ngahauranga this morning, a young railway employee, Frank Hampton 26 years of age, was run over and by an engine and received serious injuries, which necessitated his immediate r©-' moval to the hospital, where he died at 1.15 this afternoon. Hampton was on a special stock train which left Wellington shortly after 9 o'clock for Petone. At Ngahauranga it was necessary to carry out some shunting operations. Hampton was directing operations from down the line. While thus engaged the 9.10 train from Lower Hutt drew into the station. A wind was blowing and Hampton apparently beard neither the train nor warning whistles. He was knocked down, received severe injuries to his head and one of his legs. Hamp_ tin was a single man employed as a porter.
