The Independent Labour Conference passed a resolution opposing alliance with the "Wee Frees" or any other party inside or outside of Parliament. Mr. C. P. Trevelyan declared* that the -"Wee Free" statesmen were equally responsible with the Coalitionists for the present state of Europe. Lord Grey's return to politics made Labour opposition doubly necessary. Labour's hope rested upon an alliance -with the Labour and Socialist parties of Europe. The conference rejected a motion favouring affiliation with the Communists. One speaker quoted a prominent Communist declaration that the Communists wanted to take Labour by the hand in order later to get it by the throat. «.
