= « (From Our Own Correspondent.) SCHOOL COMMITTEE. i The monthly meeting of the Manaia , Public School Committee was held on ■Saturday evening. Present: Messrs T. lA. Bridge (chair), Andrews, JJakers, j and Gamlin. Apologies were received j from Mr Hammonds and Mrs Patteri son. The Education Board wrote stating that the scale of subsidies had been revised in the direction of helping the smaller schools. The chairman said that eight entries had been made by Manaia scholars for musical competitions at Hawera, and he hoped it would be possible to convey the competitors to Hawera. The Returned Soldiers' Association wrote stating that poppies were available, tor saie on Anzac Day, and asking for the co-ojieration of the committee. The matter was left in the chairman't hands. The annual report and balance-sheet for presentation to the householders' ' meeting was read and approved. I Accounts amounting to £11 16s were passed for payment. The chairman thanked the committee for its help during the past year, nnd regretted that he did not think he could again offer himself for nomination. Mr. Dakers, on behalf of the committee, thanked the chairman for his services and regretted his wish to stand | out. which he hoped would not be final. Nominations were received on Monday as follows: Messrs J. Dakers, A. I Andrews, J. E. Wells, W. J. Lilley, Mrs. Grdce Gamlin, and Mrs. L. Hanseii. There is still one vacant seat.
