ENTERTAINMENTS.

SATURDAY AT THE PICTURES.

At the Opera House on Saturday evening the management will present a triple bill headed by "Nomads of the North," from the novel by James Curwood. , William Fox will be represented by Harold Goodwin in ''Hearts of Youth," whilst the popular comedian Larry Semon will delight patrons in "The Hick." At the Grand Theatre the great super _ production from the Fox Studio, "Kathleen MavourneenJ' will be-screened. This sweetest of all Irish love stories loses none of its wonderful charm and appeal on the screen. Theda Bara plays the title role with great depth and delicacy of feeling, and the staging of the picture is beautiful in the extreme.

ELLA SHIELDS. ]

On" Monday, 24th inst., Miss Ella Shields will appear at the Opera House for one night only. Miss Ella Shields is the most worthy .and cpable successor of Vesta Tilley as the greatest male impersonator on the vaudeville stage, and those who have had the good for- • tune to see the two will agree that v there is little to choose between them. The enthusiasm which greeted her appearance, at the Opera House at Wellington simply echoed that which has market! a sensational tour in Australia. Th© Jady appears in a number of character parts, and is not content with simply wearing male clothes. She has learned the art of copying the mannerisms, gestures, walk, and life of the men she represents. The songs that accompany all the characterisa- i tions are appropriate, and are sung in! an easy, artistic, and compelling man-1 ner.' Miss Shields will be very popular in Hawera. The box plan opens next Wednesday morning at Mrs. Cook's Sweet Shop.
