BRITISH FAIRNESS.

One of the characteristics on which we Britishers pride ourselves is fairness, yet a sample of our New Zealand fairness must be a laughing stock to fellow Britishers in other parts of the globe.

On the other hand we very rightly permit the sporting public to have a bet on the totalisator, which is legalised. But another form of betting is made a crime by law. Could anything be more ludicrous—more remote from all standard of fairness?

New Zealand's sporting public now realises that the present gaming laws are grossly unfair. Sportsmen throughout the country can see that the suppression of the bookmaker is against all their rights and pleasures. In addition the sporting -public, which is also the tax-paying public, recognises that a considerable amount of revenue is being thrown away through legalised betting being confined to the totalisator.

The Dominion Sportsmen's Association —a representative body of the various sports most popular in New Zealand —have taken this matter up. A petition to have the gaming laws remodelled is being freely circulated. If you value your personal liberty see that your signature is appended—and your brother sports' signatures, too. 1422F
