■ —..—« The New South Wales ••■ Governor, speaking at the official opening of the show yesterday, said his term of office I expired in March next and he would1 not consider an extension. The death occurred at his residen.ce, Pahiatua, on Monday, of Mr Robert *E. 'C. Suisted, aged 73 years. Mr Suisted j was well known in business circles in ' Wellington some years ago, having . been in the employ of Messrs Krull j and C 0.,. and Messrs Bannatyne and ! Co. for many years. Afterwards he I was fanning at Tane. He was born ' in Wellington in 1849, being one of the oldest residents of Karord. Mr. W. Russell, of Stratford, who is well known in racing circles has been appointed deputy handicapper to the Feilding Jockey Club for the Easter .meeting, and will frame the weights for Easter Monday's racing there. It will be remembered that Mr. Russell did the I handicapping for the second' day of the Dannevirke meeting, and his work was very favourably commented on by sportsmen. I The Rev. J. Cocker, who is retiring from the pastorate of the Masterton Methodist Church, was born in, Calver, Derbyshire, sixty years ago, an£ came I out to New .Zealand as a Methodist minister in 1890, since when he has been stationed at Ashburton, Feilding Wanganui, Wellington, Auckland,' Ghnstchurch, and Masterton. He was president of the Primitive Methodist Conference before the union, and for many years has been editor and associate editor of the principal church publication. On Tuesday evening a number of bor, : ough .employees paid a surprise visit to the golf links, where the new caretaker (Mr. A. Greig) was met. Mr. Greig, by his genial and obliging nature has ! gained the esteem of his fellow workers. ', Mr. Waller, in a neat speech, presented ! Mr. Greig with a beautiful gold-mounted . fountain pen, and Mrs. Greig with a salad bowl. Messrs G. Anderson, J. , Johnston, and W. Njethe endorsed the i remarks of the previous speaker. Mr. < Greig responded, thanking the mien for the present. Miss Allen provided a sumptuous spread, and afterwards a game of euchre was indulged in and a . most enjoyable evening ended with the J singing of "Auld Langßyjie."
