HIBERNIAN SPORTS
Nominations for the various events in connection with above sports close with the secretary, P.O. Box 30, Manaia, on April 1 at 9 p.m. As the prize list is one of the best in Taranaki there "should be record entries received, and, judging by the number of runners seen on Hie, tracks at the Manaia domain, the entries will easily eclipse last year's. The inclusion of a mile race in the programme is a step in the righT direction, not only from a runner's point of view, but also from the pußlic's. The piping and Highland events are also most interesting, and shouTd produce keen competition. The various horse jumping events are surfe to have big fields, and there should also be keen competition. The secretary and different committees are working hard to make the sports a huge success. The ladies' committee also are working hard, and the catering for the public at the sports will be firsl> class. The seven-a-side football tournament should draw a record' number of teams, and will, I am sure, be very excTimg and a close finish for the winners. Given good weather the sports will he a record. PICTURES. tt is evident that Mr. Strong, proprietor of the People'a Pictures at Manaia, is endeavouring to procure the test possible productions. The Dempsey anil Carpentier fight, which has not been shown in many big towns as yet in ftew Zealand, has been booked for Saturday night*next. There are also to bo special pictures for the different showing nights during the week. The Dempsey ahcT Carpentier film will be duly advertised in the Star. Mr. Strong has now engaged an orchestra to play at the pictures.
