SCULLING.

DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIP,

WIN FOE HANNAN,

BLENHEIM, Mar. 25.

There was ideal rowing weather and smooth water all the way for the sculling championship of New Zealand, rowed on the Wairau to-day between Fogwell (holder) and Hannan (challenger).

The scullers contended with a tide ebb. Fogwell got the better of the start, and went off at a slightly quicker stroke. Hann;m had trouble with his left scull. Fogwell established a lead of half a length, but Hannan soon settled down, and at the end of half a mile he was on terms. Then he gradually drew away, and at the end of a mile was a bare length ahead. The first mile was done in 6.15.

At this stage Fogwell was splashing a lot, while Hannan was doing a nice, even stroke, rowing 22 to the other man's 26. Round the first bend Hannan increased his lead to two lengths. Coming to the second bend Fogwell quickened, picking up over a length. Once round the bend Hannan settled do,wn to business, and entered the straight three and a half lengths clear at the end of the second mile, which also took 6min losee. Fogwell was now done, and Hannan, going on as he liked, won comfortably by ten lengths in 18min SOsec.

Hannan's supporters are anxious that he should challenge the winner of the Hadfield-Paddon race. His greatly improved showing on his performance against Arnst is attributed to his new boat and the fact that his wrist has now completely recovered.
