i > (From Our Own Correspondent;. s REPORTS TO BOROUGH COUNCIL. " I Captain Et. A. Nuttall presented to the Eltham Borough Council at last • night's meeting, reports on recent fires. '' The report on the York street fire stated - that on March &; at 4 a.m.j a tire broue ) out in the premises of Mr C. R. JL - Cumming's coach factory. The report ■ stated; "The building was practically ' gutted before the brigade discovered the i lire; under the circumstances nothing __, could be saved. The pressure from the first lead was very poor, and this is what " j I expected owing to only a 4in main in ' ; York street. My second lead was taken 1 from Bridge street but owing to having j to run out 500 ft of hose to reach the j fire, the loss in friction in that .i-stance -! would be about 301b5., leaving me with r a pressure of about 551bs. A: Nuttal] reported as cr follows on the Bridge street fire: The - brigade received the alarm by the night r watchman in its early stages. "The brigade was smartly on the scene. Three leads of hose were used, and it was ' evident the fire would not last long. My , | brigade attacked the fire from three {. | sides. Everything tamed out satisfac- | torily, and again proved the necessity •j of a quick alarm. The fire, in my opinQ j ion, started from a spark from the boiler I and alighted on some rubber cuttings." t' ■
