ANOMALIES IN RAILWAY FREIGHTS.
MINISTER PROMISES NEW TARIFF
(BY TELEGRAPH —PEWW A&SOOIATIQN.T HASTINGS, March 22. The acting-Minister of Railways and the General Manager to-day heard representatives of the Borough Council and the Chamber of Commerce on various matters regarding railway management. The Minister said that a freight tariff would soon be operating in which many anomalies would be wiped out, and the railways would be in a better position to cope with motor-lorry traffic on the roads.
Speaking of the railway leasehold sections in the centre of "Hastings, the Minister said lie was .altogether in favour of the tenants bei»g given security of tenure, and he would recommend the Government to amend the conditions of the leases to enable the leaseholders to erect substantial "buildings.
